Any of these gifts would be perfect for a Secret Santa!

Finding a meaningful and creative gift for under 10 bucks can be tricky. For this year's Secret Santa or Yankee swap gift exchange, visit your local dollar store for a special yet simple gift on the cheap.

1. New socks, mittens or a scarf. People may not appreciate stuff like this as kids, but grown adults can dig a couple new pairs of socks.

2. A beautiful plant. Something festive like a pot of poinsettias would be perfect for this time of year.

3. A cupcake or cookie decorating kit. Fill a small gift bag with colourful baking cups, sprinkles, cupcake toppers and cookie cutters. Or just give one or two particularly fancy cookie cutters along with a cookie recipe.

4. Festive spices "air freshener." Christmas-y spices like cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg can be found at any bulk store. Package these in an attractive tin with some instructions to place them in some simmering water on the stove. They'll fill the receiver's home with a warm, lovely scent!

5. A peppermint bark-making kit. Print out this recipe for Peppermint Bark and give it along with some good-quality white or dark chocolate and candy canes.
