CPO Member Spotlight - jennyt

By CanadianParents.com Community

Jenn stumbled across CPO just days after she found out she was expecting her daughter. It was a surprise pregnancy, she and her husband were actually living abroad in the Caribbean at the time! She knew that she wanted to return to Canada to have her baby under the care of midwives with a planned homebirth, but after laboring at home her daughter was delivered in hospital. Since she had been out of the country for so long, she had lost touch with many old friends, and was looking for a new support system - this is where CPO came in! Jenn says, "I don't know where I would be without CPO. I have learned so much from the knowledge of others here and had plenty of mentors to help me along the path my heart desired, that being a natural childbirth, and Attachment Parenting. I'm not sure if my breastfeeding relationship with my daughter would have been so successful if I didn't have the help of the Breastfeeding Support Board. Like many new moms I had a lot of questions and all the ladies there really helped to restore my confidence and assured me I could do it!"

Since the birth of her daughter she has become a huge advocate natural childbirth/parenting and breastfeeding awareness & education. You can often find her posting on CPO's Attachment Parenting, Breastfeeding Support, and Baby Wearing Boards. Jenn also has a background in Fashion Design and has found a way to incorporate her new "life" as a mom, by running a home business designing and creating custom baby carriers (mainly Mei Tais); her goal is to have an online shop by the end of the year. Jenn is also currently enrolled in the Newman Breastfeeding Institute and is starting her journey towards becoming an IBCLC- International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant.

When CPO asked Jenn if she had any goals for this New Year, her reply was, "2008 will be an interesting year, as my family is moving to Ireland in May. Interestingly, Ireland has the lowest breastfeeding rate in all of Europe, and I really hope that by offering free support to new moms that I can make a difference! Oh, and perhaps make another baby along the way!"

CPO wishes Jenn and her family the safest of travels. No matter where you are, you'll always be a Canadian Parent to us!

Way to go Jennyt- inspirational with all that you have taken on and done in the last year and a half! And even if you find the going tough in Ireland, remember that to every woman and her child that you help with breastfeeding, that is one more woman, who will feel the relief and joy that you felt when you got your bfing issues worked out.
