CPO Member Spotlight- SarahNB

By CanadianParents.com Community

Welcome to CPO's Member Spotlight. We invite you to take a moment and learn about some of our community members here each month! Get to know Sarah, also known as SarahNB. CPO posed a few questions for Sarah and here are her responses:

Q. What brought you to CPO, or how did you find us?

I found CPO in the spring of 2000 when we bought our first computer. I remember staying up late at night with Parker for the breastfeeding chats with Michele Leigh. I did lots of reading about spirited children and breastfeeding. I was living in PEI at the time and had very few friends aside from the other moms at our family resource center so it was great to be able to get insight from other breastfeeding moms. For the longest time I was the lone PEI member and I almost left CPO until I found out we were moving to New Brunswick. Thank goodness I didn't. A fellow NB CPO'er was a life saver in more ways than I can count. I've met lots of great people since then. They've been an amazing support through a move, pregnancy loss, a new baby, surgery and recovering from a car accident. I don't know what I would do without them. We don't get together often but we're always ready to help each other.

Q. Any favorite Boards?

I browse through them all and take what I need from each one. The Breastfeeding Support Board one has been an amazing support over the past 8 years.

Q. What are your hobbies and interests?

I love to bake although I try not to. My husband is diabetic and we're both trying to shed some pounds. I *love* finding a good deal! I enjoy yoga when I make the time for it. It's really changed my life for the better and pain management. I can touch my toes. I haven't been able to do that for 20 years. I really want to take a photography course some day.
As a family we like to go geocaching when we make the time for it. Lately, I've gotten involved in lobbying to keep Early French Immersion in New Brunswick. It's done weird things to me. I follow the news, write letters and listen to CBC. Yikes.

Q. How many children do you have?

I have three children, Hannah is 11, Parker is 8 and Lydia is days away from turning 3.

Q. Do you have a particular parenting style or philosphy?

I like to think I am AP (Attachment Parenting) but really it's a bit of everything. I am quite attached to the kids as babies but as they get older, I try to foster an independance so that they are confident no matter who they are with. I've co-slept but also have a no nonsense bedtime. 7:30-8:00pm is when Mommy clocks out. For the most part, they know that if they get out of bed, it had better be serious.

Q. What is your favorite summer treat?

Mmmmmm summer treats! I'd like to say lobster but my wallet won't let me. In our house we like nachos with a yogurt/cool whip dip. It's easy to make. Equal parts of cool whip and peach yogurt, mix and dip. It sounds odd but it's really good.
