End-of-Summer Traditions |
Here's how our community members say goodbye to summer!
Recently we asked our community members: What’s your family’s end-of-summer tradition? We found that lots of you like to end the summer with a bang, whether it’s with a big barbecue, a backyard campfire or one last road trip. Here are some ideas for fun ways your own family can say “sayonara” to summer!
“We close the summer by having a nice family lunch at our favourite restaurant.” -Ita Lestari
"We have a big Christmas in August party: cold turkey, cranberry jelly, potato salad, Caesar salad,,tossed salad and all kinds of cold desserts. At Christmas in December, we use fine china, sterling silver and all the traditional dishes, but at our summertime Christmas, it is paper plates and paper cups." -Carol Ann
“We always close the summer with a large pool party. Everybody is invited, friends, family, kids and grownups, and we go all out with the BBQ.” - chalbe
“Usually a beach party with a barbecue that includes loads of boiled corn. And when it’s dark we have fireworks, because every summer is a good one.” - Patricia
“We would spend one of the last nights of the summer break camping out in our backyard. Even though we were just a few steps away from our home, it felt really special to spend that time as a family.” - Jeanette
“We have a late-night weiner and marshmallow roast in our firepit.” -CLC
"We get out the winter clothes to see what fits and what needs replacing, then it’s off to shop for supplies and clothes." -Christine
“We end the summer by taking our final vacation and BBQ on Labour Day weekend. The travel is cheaper, and it's great to see family and friends before the crazy time of school starts again!" -Shauneen
“We end our summer with a corn roast up north. We have fun games for the kids, waterskiing, tubing and lots and lots of food and drinks. It is a great family get-together.” - Cricket
"Since my family has a 'new structure' this year due to my separation and pending divorce, we don’t have an end-of-summer tradition. This year the kids and I are doing a lot of travelling throughout August, and we’re moving into a new home at the beginning of September. So the separation will finally actually happen, and we will celebrate the beginning of fall with the beginning of our new life! Won’t that be wonderful?" -Bonnie
