To help, the CanadianParents.com team went in search of the some of the best calendars for todays busy families.

As you will read below, we discovered that OUR favourite calendar is the Ultimate Family Fridge Calendar and for good reason; Not only is it the ultimate calendar for a busy family but it is Canadian! If you are looking for the BEST family organizer, the Ultimate Family Fridge Calendar is is the one!

Here's the scoop: In 1992 Deborah Barkhouse went in search of the ultimate "Canadian" calendar and when she couldn't find one she decided to make it herself. And so, Motherword Inc was born. This magnetic 16-month calendar helps families to get organized at the beginning of the school year; it attaches easily to the fridge and is available in both English and French. The blocks offer lots of space for keeping track of your family and your own schedule too.

This year, Motherword Inc is celebrating 15 years in family calendar making. You'll find some creative Canadian artwork on each page of the calendar, recipes and quotes too!  There's lots of space to jot down the important events in your family's life. Check out their website to see their journey unfold. This affordable calendar is available across Canada and sells out annually, so don't miss out.

podcast_helen.gifI found the Ultimate Family Fridge Calendar a few years ago while shopping for back to school supplies. I love that it is affordable and fits nicely on my fridge. The art work is fun and colourful and the squares hold all of the information I need to keep our family organized. I especially love that this calendar allows me to plan the school year because it starts in September.

Helen's Calendar Tip: When the kids come home the first few weeks of school with all of the annual dates I can quickly add them to the calendar and I know the information is there when I need it.

podcast_cara.gifThis is by far my favorite calendar! I love that it's magnetic, and will stick to most fridges. I also like that it comes with a page of stickers to make certain special days and appointments stand out on the calendar. It's very affordable; I only paid $10-12 dollars for it! I've seen them at Walmart, Sobeys and the Superstore. It's a 16-month calendar, so be sure to get yours early. Last year I waited until it ran out in December, and could only find the French version, I love it so much I bought that version!

Cara's Calendar Tip: I like to use a different colour marker for each family member when writing down things on the calendar.

podcast_tracy.gifI love that this calendar is magnetic and sticks nicely to my fridge - all year long! I don't have any free wall space in my kitchen so this is a must for me. I adore the big uncluttered boxes with lots of room to write stuff, and trust me, it fills up! Love the cute pictures at the bottom each month.

Tracy's Calendar Tip: The margins of the calendar are big and roomy. I use them for jotting down notes and goals for each child to accomplish during each specific month.

Other Popular Calendar picks from the CPO Community:

  • My absolute favorite calender is More Time Moms Family Organizer. I've been using it for about 6 years now and am addicted. It is an 18 month calender and has nice big squares to write in and lots of colorfull stickers and a big one for me is that you can now get it in french. ~ Kimoko/Kim H.
  • I use the palm pilot on the computer & just print it off monthly. I don't have to write 50 million things that repeat Dance goes every week, great for keeping track of when I have extra kids & when paid for them. I would be SO lost w/o it! ~ chel
  • I use my Google calendar. It really is a cool way to organize. I have one for me and the kids, dh has a google calendar that he shares with me so I can see when his appointments are and he can see when we are busy, then we don't double book. Each calendar has a different color so you can view them all at once or with a click of a button, one at a time. ~ SarahNB
  • I vote for the Ultimate Family Fridge Calendar! I like that the plain paper so that you can use pencil - our son is in alternate day school so I just filled in his school days in green pencil crayon so I can see at a glance when he needs to be there. The stickers, the stickers, the stickers. Did I mention that I love the stickers! I haven't missed an appointment since we got this calendar. We don't have to "turn it on" to remember to check it. It's just there in the kitchen. ~ monkey mama
  • My favourite calendar is easily the calendar in my cell phone. I couldn't survive without it. It reminds me of everything. My friends laugh at me because it rings to remind me of everything we're doing. ~ Yoda's Mom

Hello,I also love the calendar described, but my all time favourite is a simple desk calendar. The squares are much bigger then any of the the standard calendars and I just tape it with thick tape to the side of the refridgerator.Hope that helps.Sandra
