I have an egg allergy, should I still get the H1N1 vaccine? |
How serious does your egg allergy have to be to hold off getting the vaccine? Is there an alternative vaccine for people with egg allergies?
The virus that’s used in the vaccine is grown in eggs and subsequently highly purified and killed and there are only trace amounts of egg in the shot that’s given.People should not hold off getting the vaccine if they have an egg allergy, but they should tell their doctor or the person giving the vaccine about the allergy. Primarily the person giving the vaccine will take some extra precautions and watch them for a time afterward.
