Keep your hands to yourself or at least keep them clean: it’s cold and flu season!

TORONTO, October 15, 2008 – Get ready for a change in seasons – cold and flu season is almost here.  Having a cold is one of the leading causes of missed days at work  and is one of the main reasons kids visit the doctor and stay home from school.   While handwashing is the most important way to reduce the spread of colds, when water and soap are not available, experts recommend using pre-moistened hand wipes.

Common cold infections are widespread and only a few lucky people escape the infection each year.  It has been estimated that adults suffer two to five colds per year.   Kids may get up to eight colds per year with each cold lasting an average of five to seven days.

“In Canada, cold and flu season is from November to April and during that period children tend to spend most of their time indoors, between school, daycare and play-dates at friends’ houses,” says Zora Crowder, Senior Brand Manager, Wet Ones® Antibacterial Hands and Face Wipes.  “This means that they are more likely to be in close contact with other children who may be carrying germs.  A travel pack of antibacterial wipes is a great addition to your child’s backpack that will help them stay clean throughout the day.”

Germs live everywhere, from doorknobs to lockers to lunchrooms.  You can catch germs when you touch contaminated objects or surfaces and then touch your face - mouth, eyes and nose.

“You can’t always have soap and water handy, but antibacterial wipes make it easy to keep hands clean anytime,” said Crowder.  “They come in convenient travel packs, perfect for purses, briefcases and backpacks for anyone on-the-go.  The wipes are also available in canisters designed to fit in standard car cup holders, great for road trips or as an addition to office desks. They’re strong enough to handle messes, yet gentle enough for moms and kids to use on their hands and faces.”

New this year is a non-sticky formula and Dura-Strong™ fabric.  Available in Fresh Scent and Citrus Scent, the wipes are hypoallergenic, enriched with skin conditioning Aloe, and contain an antibacterial formula.  Wet Ones wipes are available across Canada in three convenient packaging choices for home, office or on-the-go: 40 count Canister (designed to fit in a standard car cup holder) ($3.49), 24 count Singles carton ($2.99) and 15 count Travel Pack ($1.97).
