Michelle O's Story |
I was nine days overdue in what had to be the hottest summers on record. I had been sent to the hospital to have a fetal assessment. The assessment determined that I have little water left surrounding the baby.
I was then immediately sent to the hospital I was scheduled to give birth. There we met a new doctor who decided to insert little pills to induce labor, but they were uneventful. The next day I was given the pills orally, again nothing happened. My husband and I became concerned at the slow progress and informed the doctor of the surgery I had as a youth. We felt the surgery may have been hindering the labor process.
By Thursday afternoon the strength of the contractions had increased but I was still not dilating. They decided to give me nothing to eat or drink in the event that a C-section would need to be preformed. Around 8:00 p.m. the pain became unbearable and I agreed to an epidural, I couldn't believe that such relief existed! At 10:00 p.m. I was still not dilating so the doctor and nurse decided to examine me. They found scar tissue on my cervix and once the tissue was removed, I delivered my 7 lb. son!
My third child's birth was comical. I went into labor and after seven hours I was only 2 cm. dilated. The nurses decided to take pity on me and administered Demerol. The medication relaxed my body enough that my cervix dilated 6 cm in less then an hour. They felt it was time to give me an epidural. Off I went to the delivery room to receive the epidural and on the way the baby decided that it had waited long enough! The head crowned as I walked across the room. It took a nurse and my husband to get me on a table which did NOT have stirrups. A doctor was yanked away from his paperwork to deliver my baby.
With fingers wrapped around my husband's throat and a nurse holding my legs in the air I delivered my third child. The labor went so fast I went into shock...
After such a fast delivery I felt it necessary to have my tubes tied or else run the risk of making the headline in the newspaper. We could see the headline now, WOMAN DELIVERS BABY IN BACK SEAT OF CAR!
