A little prep goes a long way

Slow cookers are infamous for making dinner for you, but in order for aromas to take over the house you’ll want to do a little prep work! Taking the time to organize your supplies and routine will make slow cooking easier and ultimately make dinnertime a success.

Don’t Put It Away

If you're serious about having dinner ready after a long day consider keeping this handy appliance on your countertop. A slow cooker near a plug will make it easy to put dinner together quickly before your day begins.

Tools of the Trade

Consider investing in a few tools to make your slow cooking adventure more fun. A small spring-form pan and soufflé dish will mean you can try new dessert recipes. A wire rack or tinfoil will make it easier to elevate foods or dishes you don’t want cooking in liquid. Don’t forget some potholders, as slow cookers get hot during the cooking process. Store your slow cooking tools in one spot so you can always find them.

Clear out your fridge!

Many recipes can be put together the night before and stored in the fridge. A clear shelf will make it easier to do some of the prep work in advance.

Create a Slow Cooker booklet or recipe box.

Save time searching for your favourite recipes by keeping them together. Store the booklet or box with your slow cooker supplies.

Your Routine.

Once you start using your slow cooker you will find the best routine for your family. For most, prepping the night before means the slow cooker will be turned on the next morning. Don’t forget to make it a habit to plan your menu each week so you have the ingredients you need on hand.

Plan for Emergencies.

Keep a few ingredients on hand that will allow you to throw a slow cooker dinner together without any chopping or browning. Look for recipes in the Slow Cooker Club marked, “QUICK.”
