Second Hand Gold |
Whether you are a stay home mom or an educator working with young children you can always use extra activities to keep the children busy. You don't need a fortune to set up these activities. All you need is a little imagination and knowing where to get your things.
Some good places you can find the "gold" is at second hand stores and garage sales. Some items might need a good wash, others a fresh coat of paint and some a few stitches but altogether it's worth it.
DOLL CORNER: Use small-new-born baby clothes, bibs, pjs, diapers... Add a few dolls and some doll furniture you may find.
HOUSE CORNER: Are you missing kitchen supplies? You can get a tea kettle for about $2, cups for .25$. You can get for your kitchen corner and extras for your cooking activities.
DRAMA CORNER: Old necklaces, scarves, and hats for your make believe corner. You can get older children's clothing and decorate with fabric paint.
ART CORNER: Use teen sizes shirts as aprons for arts n' crafts. You can buy stacks of old magazines for cutting and gluing.
READING CORNER: You can get the gold when you buy second hand children's story books. Buy a few pillows, teddybears and make your reading corner more cosy.
Do you have a game board or puzzle with missing pieces? Buy the same one and complete to make a whole one. Other gold items found are old television sets, radios, and cassette players. Be ready to look, clean, and use your imagination to find other uses for everyday items and then turn them into gold.
