What Moms Really Want for Mother's Day

Real moms dish about their must-have Mother's Day presents

By CanadianParents.com Community

We figured many of you weren't looking forward to receiving another scented candle, bottle of bath salts of "Best Mom Ever" mug this Mother's Day. So we took to Facebook and Twitter and posed this question to moms: What do you really want for Mother's Day? The responses show that sometimes the perfect gift for Mom is something you can't buy in a store.

From Twitter:

"A weekend at the spa (one can dream!)" @TNy_Photography

"Sleep and peace amongst my children!" @MultiTestingMom

"I’d love some quiet time alone!" @SandraEMartin

"A new diaper bag. My zipper just broke!" @marlibu

"A day without tears from my 12-month-old and 3-year-old." @ThomasFan2010

"A trowel, rake and glove set to help with my balcony garden or a basket for my bike." @JennDunstan

"To be able to go to the bathroom in peace." @Wolf_Mommy

"Forty-eight hours alone. Bed to self. Hot bath until it cooks with wine, books, no children 'helping.' Homemade cards." @LizMcLennan:

"Just for myself, total relaxation! Shopping, spa and sleep afterwards." @apdls0215

"I want a babysitter for the kids and a date with my husband." @MotherofToronto

"I want a day to myself. Massage, facial and pedicure." @_narvessa

Fom Facebook:

"I’d love the chance to sleep in, flowers, or a day to myself to relax and not have to think about baby stuff and chores!" Sabine

"A day off!" Wendy

"I’d like to sleep past eight and be able to have a shower without an audience! Chocolate and flowers would be nice too!" Ann

"I’d like my 15-month-old boy to say 'Mummy.' He says everything else but that!" Liz

"I’d love to have a day off too! Sleeping in is nice, and what would be even better would be to sleep all night without a toddler crying! A card, flowers and breakfast, lunch and supper already prepared!" Julie

"A day of pampering would be nice, but that’s not ever likely as a single parent." Tanya

"I’d love it if my kids would just not fight with each other. I’m sure a lot of other moms have children who can’t even breathe near each other without a fight breaking out. I have a 15, 12 and 2-year-old. The older two are a boy and a girl and, of course, hate each other! Sigh." Giselle

"I actually got my Mother’s Day gift early (a new jogging stroller). What I really want, and I know this is going to be a bit corny, but ever since I had children I have wanted a macaroni necklace. My son is five, and I’ve been hinting at it for two years. Hopefully, this will be the year I get one." Pauline

"A day off without the stress of having to police my husband to ensure he’s managing alright with our four year old and 10-month-old, as well as planning and cooking the meals for the day and cleaning up afterward. Breakfast in bed would be fun too!" Tammy

"A French pedicure!" Josee

"I need my 20-month-old to sleep through the night and past 5 a.m. But if Grandma would take him for the weekend while I’m at the spa being massaged and seaweed-wrapped, that would be the best. Good luck getting a spa weekend with my husband. LOL." Vicki

"I want my 17-month-old boy to start talking and eat the way he did six months ago." Pannee

I don't care about flowers, cards, or chocolates, I just want to know that my husband (children are too young still) put thought and effort into something he bought or did for me.

All I would like for mothers day is to be appreciated. Sometimes I think that the family think things just get done on their own, eg. cleaning, laundry, appointments, banking, running from hockey rink to hockey rink etc. I don't mind doing it but sometimes just a simple "can help you with anything" or Thanks Mom! I have two children 13
