The Dove Self-Esteem Fund challenges Canadians to pay beauty forward and help start a movement of positive self-esteem

Toronto, ON – August 18, 2008 – Today, the Dove Self-Esteem Fund issued a challenge to Canadians to positively impact the lives of women and girls they care about by “paying beauty forward” – a simple concept that can begin with one person telling another that she is beautiful. To ignite this movement of positive change, the Dove Self-Esteem Fund is inviting Canadians to submit ideas on how they would pay beauty forward, and be eligible to receive $500 to make it happen. Canadian personality Sophie GrÈgoire Trudeau has already joined the movement, and in partnership with the Dove Self-Esteem Fund, will be encouraging Canadians to participate in the pay beauty forward challenge.

“I was intrigued and thrilled when offered the chance to work with the Dove Self-Esteem Fund on the pay beauty forward program,” says Sophie GrÈgoire Trudeau. “Creating a movement focused on improving the self-esteem of women and girls across Canada is a concept that really resonates with me. Finding the strength and courage to overcome and protect against the outside influences that can cause negative body image is very important...young women are our future and must have the power to shape the world for the better. It is an honour for me to have the opportunity to encourage and help women and girls across the country to develop better self-confidence within themselves through this movement.”

Pay beauty forward submissions will be accepted online at www.paybeautyforward.ca from August 18 to November 30, 2008. The Dove Self-Esteem Fund judging panel, which includes Trudeau, self-esteem expert Lisa Naylor and Alison Leung, Dove Marketing Manager, will choose 100 Canadians to receive $500 to carry out their pay beauty forward idea. Visitors to the website will also be able to get involved in the movement by sending customized, personal messages to the women and girls in their lives in the form of virtual flowers – an interactive activity designed to spread positive self-esteem.

“We are hoping our pay beauty forward movement will inspire and empower Canadians to affect positive change in the lives of women and girls,” says Alison Leung, Marketing Manager, Dove Canada. “We can’t wait to see how individuals across the country put their ideas into action and hope the idea of paying beauty forward will take on a life of its own.”

The Dove Self-Esteem Fund was created to be a force of positive change in the way women and young girls perceive and embrace beauty. A portion of the proceeds from every Dove purchase helps fund Self-Esteem workshops, development of new materials, and distribution of self-esteem resources across the country.
