Snacks

  • Lunchtime Bagels

Turn a bag of bagels into a lunchtime favourite by combining some non-traditional ingredients with your cream cheese.

  • Peanut-free PB & J Sandwich

We discovered I.M. Healthy SoyaNut Peanut Butter in the 2008 Today's Parent back to school issue.  The article featured the results of a taste test of a number of no-nut peanut butters — I.M. came up the winner! Our kids love this nut-free peanut butter which means they can take a peanut butter sandwich to school.  We mark our son's sandwich container with a sticky note that says, "I'm a nut-free peanut butter sandwich" so teachers and students know he is not using real peanut butter.

  • Almond Crusted Chevre and Grape Truffles

A deceptively simple make-ahead hors d'oeuvre. This hors d'ouevre is a substantial nibble — think traditional cheese platter with fruit and almonds — all in one bite! Makes about 2 dozen truffles. Prep time: 20 minutes, 50 minutes with chilling time.

  • Tater Dipped Veggies

This recipe is a great alternative to deep-fried veggies!

  • Grubs with Ghoulish Goo

Little ghosts and goblins will enjoy dipping tender gnocchi (or “grubs” for the occasion) into a delicious warm and gooey sauce that really looks like ghoulish goo. It’s good stick-to-the-ribs fare that will fuel a chilly Halloween night.

  • Monster Mix

This mix is perfect at Halloween or anytime of the year. Just exchange the halloween candies with other seasonal treats.

  • Mini Cheese Ball Pumpkins

I turned the mixture I used to make a regular cheddar cheese ball into these bite-sized mini cheese balls. When coated in crushed cracker crumbs and pushed down in the center, the squat shape is reminiscent of a pumpkin. Serve them as is, or set them on thin crackers.

  • Rainy Day Spinach Dip

When kids are watching TV, they can lose track of how much they’re putting away. So when a rainy afternoon comes along, just set down a bowl of Rainy Day Spinach Dip and some raw vegetables. They’ll love it, even if they know it’s good for them !

  • Watermelon Pop

There's nothing quite like the taste of a piece of sweet, juicy watermelon on a hot summer day. The next time you serve up this favourite summertime treat, surprise the kids with some watermelon pops.  This recipe is quick and easy and a perfect treat to cool the kids down.
