Introducing Xander
I would like to introduce you my second of 4 kids, and only boy, Xander Dayson, 11.In a house of chaotic female dominatio,n, Xander is the calm. He takes his 5 year old sister Abby under his wing and can calm her high maintenance needs better than anyone else. She worships the ground he walks on and he gives her anything she wants.
He's not as good at being a little brother to his 15-year-old sister Kiera. They argue over the bathroom, the way they look at each other, they way they chew, etc… but it's really nice when I come home from a night out or a class and they have managed to spend all night together and have fallen asleep curled up on the couch.
Our youngest, Meaghan is 2, but was still in the womb when Xander first took interest in her. He came to all my midwife appointment and learned to use the doppler and belly mapping. He was all prepared to attend our water birth, but went out to play thinking it would be quite a while, and came home to find her already here. Now that she is of use to him, Xander will let her in his room and help her build things, read her books tries to teach her games.
Xander is a die hard boy; he'll drop his bag after school and run right back out on his bike to his secret fort with his best buds, and come back at dinner with a tear in his jeans, snakes in a pail, and a grin on his face. After dinner & a shower, Xander loves to play Harry Potter Scene It, Pirates of the Caribbean Monopoly, Shrek Operation, Jenga or watch a good movie, so long as we all do it together!
I thank my lucky stars that I have such a great kid! He really is a jack-of-all-trades; he will try anything once. He tries a new activity whenever it strikes him, so far he has tried: baseball, hockey, football, swimming, martial arts, basketball, soccer, white water rafting, rappelling, mountain biking. Next, he wants to try power tumbling and resume swimming so he can eventually be a lifeguard.
We are an open-minded famiy and support our kids desire to try dedicate time to one activity or try a variety. I have tried to encourage Xander to try out for competitive cheerleading with Abby, but he says he's not that open-minded.....yet!
Taking regular visits to CPO helps keep me in the loop with the pregnancy world of moms, as I'm a doula and it keeps me in the know about what the needs and concerns of today’s mothers-to-be are. The forums in general are like a social network with those who do not need me to change their diapers and have something to talk about besides what the next snack is going to be. Great ideas from all sides!
Thanks for taking a look at my young man, we think a lot of him and hope you do too!
Blessings,
Stephanie
