Born in Calgary, Alberta and growing up and moving around all over British Columbia, I often had difficulty answering the question "Where are you from?" without slipping into a coma as I rattled out the long list of towns that I've called home. At least now that I live in Switzerland it is a little easier. Most people are satisfied with the response "Canada" when they ask! However, coming home to Canada is a little trickier. It seems for some strange reason, that whenever I say that I live in Switzerland, I'm asked how I like living in Sweden. Switzerland is not Sweden…so please quit asking me that!

I am 28 years old, happily married to Andy, a Swiss fellow I met while studying at the University of Calgary and now a proud new mother to little Julia. Motherhood hit me in the face like a wet sock, but I am better now. Somehow all of those hormonal pregnant lady fantasies I had about "taking tea" in the afternoon sun as the baby obligingly snoozed didn't quite pan out. Instead, I was trapped with a squealing, demanding, impatient little creature, with no help, no sleep and no coffee breaks! In fact, in the beginning just cramming a chocolate bar or other nutritious titbit into my body was a challenge. The apartment looked like a team of rugby players came by to scrum in the living room, and all I did was change nappies, or sterilise, clean and prepare bottles for the next feeding. I was a wreck!

The good news is…I am a recovering new mom. My second wind has blown in and I've started snatching a few extra hours of time for myself, begun writing again and working part-time from home. Julia is no longer a squealing, demanding, impatient little creature, but an adventurous, curious and mobile impatient little creature! (But the apple of her mom's eye of course!).Which means, I will never run out of things to write about! Laughter helps me get through everything, so I hope you enjoy and get a laugh from some of my stories!
