By Leitha, CPO Community Cook

Remember the delicious crunch of candied apples? This recipe rivals those tasty carnival treats we all love. Personalize them by topping them with some nuts or candy sprinkles.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup white corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 6 medium apples
  • 6 wooden skewers
  • Candy Thermometer

Directions

Apples Preparation

  1. Wash apples, remove stems and dry well.
  2. Push wooden skewers into apples
  3. Set apples aside

Candy Coating Preparation

  1. Mix sugar, corn syrup and water in a pot.
  2. Cook mixture on low or medium low heat, stirring constantly, until all sugar is dissolved.
  3. Continue to let mixture cook until mixture reaches 250 degrees on a candy thermometer or until a hard yet flexible thread is formed when some of the syrup is dropped in cold water.
  4. Stir in food coloring quickly.
  5. Holding apple by the skewer/stick, dip each into the hot mixture turning to coat.

Let cool on greased cookie sheet, wire rack, or parchment paper. Enjoy!
