Christmas Morning Wifesaver

A great Christmas morning casserole - prepare the night before and pop it in the oven in the morning.

Ingredients

  • 16 slices of white bread
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese (cheese slices work best)
  • 6 eggs
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 1-2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cups milk
  • ¼ pound of butter
  • 2 cups crushed special K or Cornflakes
  • Back Bacon or ham slices
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • ¼ cup diced green pepper
  • Dash of Tabasco


Directions

1: Line a buttered 9x13 pan with 8 slices of white bread.
2: Layer with the back bacon or ham slices.
3: Layer with cheese slices
4: Cover with the remaining 8 slices of bread.
5: In a blender mix the following, eggs, salt, pepper ,onion ,milk,
Worcestershire ,green pepper ,dry mustard and the Tabasco sauce.
6: Slowly pour the egg mixture over the bread. Cover with saran or foil and leave in the fridge overnight.
7: In the morning melt the butter and pour over the casserole.
8: Sprinkle the crushed special K or Cornflakes over the top.
9: Bake at least 1 hour at 350 degrees F. Let stand 10 minutes and serve!

    I made this but the bread was bread very fresh and I found it hard to get cooked. It ended up being very goopy in middle. I am looking for suggestions. Should I use dry bread? How do I tell when it is baked
