Cinnamon Ornaments |
Stir cinnamon into applesauce and you can create a dough that can be rolled out and cut into fragrant Christmas tree ornaments.
Ingredients
Cookies:
- 2 cups jarred no-sugar-added applesauce
- 2 ¼ cups ground cinnamon, plus more for rolling out
- ¼ cup ground ginger
Decoration:
- 10 yards 1/8-inch fabric ribbon, cut into 12-inch lengths
Directions
1. Have ready 2 cookie sheets.
2. Combine applesauce, cinnamon, and ginger in a large bowl until spices are completely incorporated and mixture is stiff enough to roll out. Add more cinnamon if necessary.
3. Roll dough out to ¼-inch thickness on surface lightly sprinkled with cinnamon.
4. Cut out shapes of your choice; insert end of a chopstick in top of each ornament and swirl around until a hole is formed. You can also use a drinking straw.
5. Transfer to cookie sheets and allow to dry 12 hours or overnight. Gently turn over, dry for 12 more hours, and repeat until completely hard and dry. Drying process might take a few days.
6. Thread ribbon through hole and knot about 1 inch from the ends. They are now ready to hang.
Good cookie tip: to alter the fragrance, you can also use allspice and nutmeg. You just need a total of 2 1/2 cups spices and make at least 2 cups of it cinnamon.

Thanks for this. I love the smell of cinnamon ornaments but the recipe I had used white glue as well as the applesauce and cinnamon. When they look like cookies, it wasn't safe with kids around either to make or to hang on the tree.
