Crock Pot BBQ Ribs |
These ribs are easy to prepare and fall off the bone delicious! Just fix and forget!Ingredients
- 3 1/2 lbs pork loin back ribs (I've used side ribs as well, and they're just as tasty)
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. fresh ground pepper
- 3 tbsps. liquid smoke (we used hickory flavored)
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1/2 cup Coca Cola
- 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce
Directions
1. Spray the inside of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray.
2.
Remove inner skin from the ribs. Mix brown sugar, pepper, liquid smoke,
garlic and salt together in a bowl and rub this mixture onto the ribs.
Cut ribs into 4 inch pieces, then layer ribs and onion in the slow
cooker. Pour cola over everything.
3. Cover and cook on a low heat
setting for 8-9 hours or until ribs are tender. Remove the ribs from slow cooker, and drain and
discard the liquid.
4. Pour the BBQ sauce into a shallow bowl. Dip
each of the rib pieces into sauce. Return the ribs to the slow cooker.
Pour any remaining sauce over the ribs, then cover and cook on low for
1 hour.

OK - we just finished this recipe and the ribs are AMAZING! I had a hard time finding the liquid smoke (part because I didn't know what I was looking for and our local store doesn't carry it - but I did find it!) Other than that the recipe was easy to put together and the last step made the ribs so yummy! This is a new family favourite and we'll be making it whenever we can get ribs on sale. Thanks Cara!

I found the liquid smoke in the spice aisle of my grocery store but try looking in the BBQ sauce aisle. I wasn't overly impressed with how they turned out. They were so dry and all I could taste was onions and smoke. I cooked them on low for 3 hours then did the last step and put them on the "keep warm" function because I didn't want them to cook anymore. Maybe if I cooked them for an hour maybe 2 max and continue with the last step as normal they won't overcook. Also I'd use less liquid smoke and onions.

This sounds great ... but, do you need a slow cooker? Could this not also be done in the oven on low in a covered pot?

I have made these a couple of times and everyone has loved them. I've used root beer both times as thats all I had. I also finished them on the bbq after applying the sauce just to caramelize a bit. YUMMY!!!
