Great Stew

I got this recipe from my grandmother. My children and my home daycare children love this stew! It is very flexible for amounts of vegetables and kinds. We like more carrots and less potatoes. Hope you enjoy it too!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds stew beef
  • 6-7 cut up carrots
  • 1-2 chopped onions
  • 3-4 cut up potatoes
  • 1-2 stalks cut up celery
  • 1 28 oz. can tomatoes in juice
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons instant tapioca
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Directions

Place first five ingredients into large oven proof dish. Cut up tomatoes (reserve the juice) and add to dish. Mix. Add salt, pepper, tapioca, and sugar into the reserved tomato juice and mix well. Pour tomato juice mixture over all and mix well . Cover dish and bake at 250 degrees for 5 hours. Do not peak! Stew will make its own gravy. This stew is delicious with homebaked bread ! Enjoy.
