Ham and Cheese Loaf |
You can serve this in lunches, the next day, it is good hot or cold. A cooked loaf freezes well. Once you have made one, you will probably be able to come up with your own fillings to suit your family‚s taste buds. I only put in ham and cheese, in ours. You can use real ham or just slices. The same thing with the cheese; we use processed slices as well as grated hard cheese. The nice thing about this recipe is that you can do almost anything with it.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups of flour
- 1 tablespoon of white sugar
- 1 tablespoon of fast rising yeast
- 1 teaspoon of garlic salt
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- sesame seeds
- 1 egg white
- cheese slices
- ham slices
- salami slices
Directions
Mix flour, sugar, garlic and yeast in a bowl. {You can do this in a mixer or by hand because it is like a pizza dough.} Add the water and oil and mix until smooth; approx. Four minutes. Cover the bowl and let stand for 15 minutes. Roll the dough out on a greased cookie sheet, to fill the whole sheet. Place the cheese slices in the center of the dough, covering only one third of the dough. Then layer ham and salami on top. You can add mustard too, if your whole family likes it.
Roll the right side of the dough to cover filling. Make another layer of filling on top of the rolled over dough. Then bring the left side of dough to cover. Pinch the edges shut. Cover with a towel and let stand for 40 minutes. With a sharp knife, score the top so that the heat can escape. Do knot cut right to the edges or the cheese will run out. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes so the cheese can set. Cut into slices and serve.
