Hot Dog Octopuses |
My kids like these, though I would not eat them. But they look really cool!
Ingredients
- Hotdogs
Directions
Cut the "legs" of a raw hot dog by slicing down the middle from one end to near the other end, leaving an inch or so uncut. Then turn the hot dog and cut two more slices, also lengthwise. (I can never make a true octopus, mine only has six legs.) Next, cut a little curvy smile, (I cut a wedge out), and eyes. (We use a straw to do the eyes!) I've tried various cuts on top to make hair, but it never has much effect. Now, carefully open the legs so your octopus can sit on a microwave-safe plate. Cook on high for about a minute, until you have the desired effect. It's legs actually curl up, that's the fun part. May need some adjustment during cooking. I usually pat some of the grease off of these with paper towel after cooking, then serve with choice of "seaweed": peas, broccoli, vegie-pasta, (rotini looks good), or any green food. Anything given a fun name becomes more attractive.
