This oatmeal is not only a great source of iron, but its thick, “stay
in the spoon” consistency makes it easy for children to feed themselves.
Ingredients
- 2⁄3 cup (150 mL) water

1⁄3 cup ( 75 mL) quick-cooking rolled oats

1⁄8 tsp (0.5 mL) salt

3 tbsp (45 mL) infant rice cereal (iron-fortified)

2 tbsp (25 mL) whole milk
Directions
- In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add oatmeal and salt; return to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in rice cereal and milk (adjust quantities, if you wish, to achieve desired consistency). Let cool before serving.
- Makes 2 servings
- 12 to 18 months
