Iron-Boosted Oatmeal

Iron-Boosted Oatmeal This oatmeal is not only a great source of iron, but its thick, “stay in the spoon” consistency makes it easy for children to feed themselves.

Ingredients

  • 2⁄3 cup  (150 mL)  water
  • 1⁄3 cup ( 75 mL)   quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 1⁄8 tsp  (0.5 mL)  salt
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL)  infant rice cereal (iron-fortified)
  • 2 tbsp (25 mL)  whole milk

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add oatmeal and salt; return to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in rice cereal and milk (adjust quantities, if you wish, to achieve desired consistency). Let cool before serving.
