Monstrosities

By Bonnie, Ontario

These are my favourite cookies.  I also often substitute raisins for the nuts and have both raisins & choc. chips. You can make them smaller, but then they wouldn't be monstrosities!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup margarine or butter (room temp)
  • 1 1/3 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups oatmeal
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or raisins
  • 2/3 cups chopped nuts

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 deg F.

Sift the flour, banking soda & salt, set aside.

Cream butter & sugar, then add the eggs 1 at a time beating well after each egg. Add vanilla. Mix in the flour mixture, oatmeal, choc. chips/raisins and nuts.

To make 1 dozen 4 1/2" cookies, drop by 1/3 cup measure onto a greased cookie sheet. Make sure they are about 6" apart, and 2 1/2" from the edge of the pan ...

Bake at 350 deg. F until lightly browned (15 to 17 minutes).
