Cooked in the juicy sauce, there's plenty extra to spoon over rice or mashed potatoes. Serve with corn, peas, or a salad and you've got a quick nutritious meal. This is one of those down-home, super easy dinners that everybody loves.

I'm not sure if I'm looking for the right stuff, but when you say chili sauce, am I looking for tobasco?? That and Frank's red hot is the only stuff I can find

The chili sauce I use is the one put out by Heinz. Don't use tabasco sauce! See what the heinz sauce looks like by putting this url into your browser:http://www.heinzitup.com/products.asp?c=3

What size bottle of grape jelly do you use?

I would also like to know what size bottle of grape jelly to use as well as what size chili sauce bottle as well.I would call myself a newbie/dabbler. i have used my slow cooker in the past for keeping food warm and on occasion to try a recipe unsuccessfully. I am hoping that this club inspire to use it more often to prepare a meal and reduce the stress of suppertime chaos. I tried the chicken recipe from last week's newsletter and it was a hit. I will definitely make it again. I look forward to trying all your recipes.

I find the store bought meatballs very salty. I tend to make my own. Make sure you put parmesan cheese in your mixture. Flat leave parsley gives the best flavour and lots of garlic added to your meat mixture, as well as seasoned bread crumbs, eggs and of course a splash of tobasco sauce!

My mom and I have been making this recipe for over 15 years! We add garlic and use small meatballs and serve them with toothpicks to make it more fun for the kids - this also works well if you're having a pot luck or a party!

I noticed that someone already asked what brand of chili sauce, and that was answered, but I also wanted to ask, what size bottle? Also, and I know someone else asked about this too, what size jar of grape Jelly? Thanks.

I would like to know what size of each bottles also..ty!P.S. A friend at work says she uses cranberry jelly in a can instead of the grape jelly...i'm sure both are tasty!!!

bottle sizes, yes, please... and if anyone has a link to a simple meatball recipe, that would be great.

The size of the jelly jar and chili sauce (for me) depends on size of the batch of meatballs...for 2 lbs ground beef I would definetely use a 500 ml of jelly and the same of sauce. I've also used Heinz Hot Ketchup or regular ketchup and apple jelly. The kids at school request these meatballs at EVERY potluck (for them I just use regular ketchup). Happy cooking :)

what if the meatballs were made from scratch, could I put them in raw or do I have to precook them first?

My girlfriend makes a very similar recipes which calls for the Strub's brand "willie's chili sauce" (usually found in the ketchup section or pickle section) and apricot jelly. Ratio is 3:1 chili:jelly. Hope the info helps (although a bit late)

GREAT ON MINI BUNS ...LIKE A LITTLE SUB

  • Diane | July 25, 2010 at 4:26 pm - §

I use the fresh meatballs from Sobey's. There's nothing added so no worries about too much salt.

I use equal amounts of Kraft BBQ sauce, whichever flavor you like and Heinz Ketchup. , So for about 65 meatballs(2 lbs) I use a 455mL bottle of BBQ sauce and the same amount of ketchup. (or approx, 2cups of each.

I don't know if this is a ridiculous question, but I would be making fresh meatballs so would I cook them before I put them in the slow cooker?

  • bonnie | October 5, 2010 at 6:08 pm - §

I would like to make these but I also have a question.I would be making my own meatballs, but I am thinking that if I put them in the slowcooker raw and slowcook them, they will turn to mush by the end of the cooking time. <---mushy meatballs are not what I am aiming for

  • Melinda | October 12, 2010 at 12:31 pm - §

You should cook your meatballs first I would think or they will be much just like meat falls off the bone

These were amazing. My family killed it. Only little problem is I work 8 hours. My slow cooker does not have a time so it overcooked a little :-(
