Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce |
|
By Tracy Keleher
My kids rave about this spaghetti sauce, and they know I use a secret
ingredient (other than love)! It's a touch of brown sugar, which helps
to smooth out the flavours and mellow the acidity of the tomatoes.
Ingredients
-
2 pounds ground beef, cooked and drained
- 2 onions finely chopped
- 1 large can diced tomatos
- 1 small can tomato paste
- 3 medium cans (unseasoned) tomato sauce
- 2 fresh garlic cloves, cut and crushed (optional)
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 Tablespoons Italian seasoning (or to taste)
Materials
- Slow Cooker
-
Sharp Knife
-
Cutting Board
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Stir. Cook on medium heat for 6 - 8 hours.
-
Serve with spaghetti noodles.

I make this probably once a month and it's always a hit. Feel free to alter the ingredients and ingredient amounts to your own family's taste. Sometimes I add mushrooms, or even zucchini slices. Use leftovers baked in the oven over various pastas with mozzarella cheese.

If you have concerns about using sugar you can substitute basil which is naturally sweet...lessens the calories...and works great...I use at least 2-3 tablespoons

Don't be afraid to add extra ingrediants to this recipe! Wing it! I added freshley grated parmesan cheese and it is amazing . About 2 TBSP. will do it.Also, cut up some fresh parsley and throw it in. Also for the curagious...a few sprinkles of dried chili peppers if you like a little bit of a nip. Otherwise omit the chili peppers. Bon Apetite!

I've tried this recipe and it's phenominal. Try this variation: When you are cooking the meat, add a half cup of red wine and let the liquid boil off. Then fry up seven or eight slices of bacon, and crumble it into the pot as well. It makes a really nice bolognese sauce.

This is perfect! I was just coming onto the site to search for crock pot spaghetti sauce! I added chopped up green peppers and mushrooms too, my family loves spaghetti so I'm sure this recipe will be a hit!
