Xmas Spritz |
This recipe is perfect for any mother who is tight on time, but wants exquisite cookies for the holiday season—and best of all, you can make them ahead of time and store them in the freezer!
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 cup butter, salted
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 1/4 cups flour
Directions
1. Heat oven to 400° F.
2. Combine egg, butter, sugar, salt and vanilla. Beat at medium speed until mixture is light and fluffy. Add flour a little at a time. Beat at low speed until combined.
3. Place dough in a cookie press. Press desired shapes onto cookie sheet, separating for cooking expansion. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
4. Top with colored sugar, pieces of cherries or silver dragées.

cookie press... what is that. I think using a rolling pin will do the same..correct?what is the secret to making the toppings stick tothe cookies after they are baked.. or do you put them on before they go in the oven. I have failed at baking so often and thought I might as well ask and maybe this recipe will be a good one for the less experienced bakers in the world :0)Thank you

A cookie press is a pump with a shaped opening that you push the dough through, and it comes out in that shape. They're a little tricky to learn to use - the consistency of the dough has to be just right, not too stiff, and not too sticky - but once you get it down, they're WONDERFUL little tools. SOOO much faster than rolling and cutting. They make really cute little cookies.
